Nitropouch from MHT mold

With its innovative packaging concept “Nitropouch” the German Krones AG won two awards in 2008:  The Water Innovation Award in Gold and the German Packaging Prize.

MHT is part of the developing team of the super lightweight bottle (only 6.6 grams of PET for packaging 500 millilitres of still water): the Nitropouch preform is produced by an MHT mold.

The innovative features of Nitropouch include firstly dividing the bottle into different functional sections. Secondly, nitrogen is used to build up a defined pressure inside the bottle, so that it does not collapse during transport and handling. The mouthpiece specially developed for this bottle dispenses with the neck ring otherwise customary, and weighs only 1.3 grams; the closure, too, is sensationally light at 1.1 grams.
